Simone Lipton

Simone Gross Lipton (Flax), 84, of North Hills, NY, died Aug. 16, 2016. Born in Newark, she grew up in Newark and South Orange and also had resided in Fort Lee. 

Mrs. Lipton worked in public relations, first for a French magazine, Realites, in New York City, and then for Fluid Chemical in Newark before becoming director of communications for Retail Jewelers of America. She was a mentor to many young women throughout her career.

She graduated from Columbia High School in Maplewood. She attended Adelphi University and graduated from Upsala College in 1954, majoring in both French and Spanish. 

She held several major fund-raisers for Neurofibromatosis Type 2, which afflicts her grandson, on behalf of the Children’s Tumor Foundation. She was recognized by the organization for these efforts. 

Predeceased by her husband, Seymour, she is survived by two daughters, Barbara Gross Franklin (Michael) and Jackie Gross (Stuart Siris); a stepdaughter, Sherry (Gary) Citrin; a brother, Walter Flax; and two grandchildren. 

Services were held Aug. 18 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to Adam Goodkind NF2 Research Fund at The Children’s Tumor Foundation (visit ctf.org/donate and when entering contact information, select “Family Fund” and then “Adam Goodkind NF2 Family Fund”) or United Cerebral Palsy Foundation.
