SMOLEN-ROSEN
Avichai David Smolen, son of Barbara Schneider and Robert Smolen of New Milford, was married Oct. 17, 2010, to Justin Taylor Rosen, son of Elizabeth and Keith Rosen of Coram, NY. Avichai Smolen is formerly of New Brunswick.
Rabbi Joshua Gruenberg performed the ceremony at North Shore Synagogue in Syosset, NY. The couple met at Camp Ramah Nyack, where they spent many summers on staff.
Mr. Smolen earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Rutgers University and spent a year in Washington, DC, as a Faith Acts Fellow, a joint venture between the Tony Blair Faith Foundation and the Interfaith Youth Core, building a sustainable hub of multi-faith youth activism in support of malaria eradication. He is development and communications associate at the New York City office of Keren Or, the Jerusalem Center for Blind Children with Multiple Disabilities.
Mr. Rosen completed his undergraduate education at List College, the joint program between Columbia University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, and Jewish Theological Seminary, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Jewish thought. He is a graduate student at New York University’s Wagner School, where he is a candidate for a master’s in public administration at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and a master’s of arts in Jewish studies at the Skirball Department of Hebrew and Judaic Studies. He is also participating in the Wexner Graduate Fellowship, a four-year leadership development program for emerging professionals in the Jewish community, administered by the Wexner Foundation.
