“The Last Days,” the 1998 Academy Award-winning documentary presented by Steven Spielberg and USC Shoah Foundation, has been remastered and will be re-released on Netflix on Wednesday, May 19. It traces the experiences of five Hungarian Holocaust survivors who fell victim to Adolf Hitler’s war against the Jews during the final days of World War II. The five — a grandmother, a teacher, a businessman, an artist, and a U.S. congressman — are chronicled as they return from the United States to their hometowns and to the ghettos and concentration camps that once imprisoned them.
Through the eyes of the survivors and other witnesses, including a former Nazi doctor at Auschwitz, “The Last Days” recounts one of the darkest chapters in human history and depicts personal strength and courage, and the power of the human spirit.
“The Last Days” remaster was created from the original 35MM film negative, and was supervised by the original filmmaking team.
