Stephen Henry Joseph
Stephen Henry Joseph, 83, of Montclair died July 10, 2015. Born in New York City, he moved to Montclair in 1967.
Mr. Joseph was an advertising executive, first working for the Edwin Bird Wilson Agency in New York City and then “in-house” for Manufacturer’s Hanover Corp. (predecessor of J.P. Morgan Chase), also in New York City.
He received a BS from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, in 1953.
He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves at the close of the Korean War, on the USS Oak Hill, and earned the rank of Lt. Commander. He continued his service in the reserves from 1951 to 1976.
He was a member of Essex County Country Club in West Orange and Temple Emanu-El of New York City. He was also a member of the Society of Antique Modelers and was national champion in 1977 in the Antique Rubber Power Division.
Predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Mavis “Van” Ione Joseph, in 2000, he is survived by his son, John Nathan. Joseph (Dale C. Grayson) of Bala Cynwyd, Pa.; his daughter, Janis Ione Joseph (Albert W. Ritter) of Chatham; and four grandchildren.
Services were held July 12 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Chatham.
