Steven Kaplan
Steven Norman Kaplan, 66, of West Palm Beach, Fla., died Oct. 1, 2014. Born in Jersey City, he lived in Randolph before retiring to Florida in 2004.
In 1971 Mr. Kaplan became a CPA, and began his accounting career as an audit supervisor for Touche Ross & Co. In 1978, he became a partner at Fass Kaplan & Co. He branched out on his own, establishing Steven N. Kaplan & Co. in 1986. He remained the sole shareholder until his retirement in 2004.
He attended Lincoln High School and St. Peter’s College, both in Jersey City, receiving a bachelor of science.
Among his many accomplishments, he was a member and served as vice president and secretary of the Morris-Sussex-Warren chapter of the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants, served as treasurer for the Jaycees of Morris County and the Wounded Warriors Project, and most recently served on the finance committee at the Ibis Golf & Country Club.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Gloria (Friedman); his son, Richard (Tracy Bussel) of Long Valley; his daughter, Beth (Josh) Rubach of Demarest; a brother, Eric of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; three granddaughters; and his mother-in-law, Shirley Kantor of West Palm Beach.
Services were held Oct. 3 with arrangements by Dangler Funeral Home, Morris Plains. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation.
