Susan Glazer
Dr. Susan Mandel Glazer, 79, of Lawrenceville died Feb. 13, 2017. She was born in Jersey City.
Prof. Glazer was the founder and director of the Center for Reading and Language Arts at Rider University and director of the Graduate Program in Reading. Many local children received reading remediation and enrichment under the tutelage of the program’s graduate students.
She received a B.A. from Syracuse University, an M.A. from New York University, and her Ed.D. from University of Pennsylvania.
She presented speeches and general sessions at conferences of 20,000 as well as professional development days in school districts in 49 states and 29 countries. She was the author of 18 books on reading and language arts and was active in many professional organizations, including serving as former president of the International Reading Association (now the International Literacy Association).
She is survived by her companion, Ernst Heilbrunn; two sisters, Lesley Morrow and Lynn Cohen; and a nephew, Darren J. Cohen.
Services were held Feb. 15 with arrangements by Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, Ewing. Memorial contributions may be made to Rider University for the benefit of the Musical Theater Program.
