Oscar Israelowitz, a licensed New York tour guide and publisher, talks on Zoom about “Jewish New Jersey – A Photographic History,” for Kol Rina in South Orange, on Sunday, February 23, at 10:30 a.m.

Participants will see the first Jewish settlements in the urban centers of Newark, Paterson, Passaic, New Brunswick, Jersey City, and Trenton. Sites include the old Bamberger’s Department Store, Beth Israel Hospital, and the old Newark synagogues — B’nai Jeshurun, Bnai Abraham, and Oheb Shalom. There’s also the waterfalls of Paterson and the city’s Jewish-owned factories and the Jewish farming communities of Alliance, Vineland, and Woodbine, the first all-Jewish town in the world, where every town official was Jewish and spoke Yiddish. Old vacation spots include Lakewood and Atlantic City.
