Janet Penn and Ruth Ross, co-chairs of the social action committee at Temple B’nai Abraham in Livingston, sorted packages of feminine hygiene products the committee collected, in partnership with the synagogue’s sisterhood, for its June Mitzvah of the month. Congregants donated more than 5,400 sanitary napkins; they are to be distributed to girls and women who do not have access to them. Many teenagers receive products in school but can no longer get them during the summer vacation; they cannot be bought with food stamps. The products were distributed by Nick Santinelli of Livingston Neighbors Helping Neighbors to Newark Emergency Services for Families and to St. Michael’s, St. Anne’s, and St. John’s churches in Newark.
LNHN distributes food and other necessities to more than 40 families.
