Summit’s Temple Sinai held a recent weekend of celebration to make the installation of Rabbi Erin Glazer, who joined the shul last July 1, but whose formal welcome had been postponed due to the pandemic. It also celebrated the Reform congregation’s 70th anniversary.

The weekend began with Rabbi Glazer’s installation on Friday night. Special guests there included Rabbi David Ellenson, the former president of Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion; and Rabbi Jacqueline Koch Ellenson, a former Women’s Rabbinic Network executive director. Guest musician Michael Harlow joined the clergy in leading the celebratory Shabbat Nefesh service. An oneg Shabbat, including many congregants’ homemade desserts, followed.

On Saturday, there was a community Shabbat morning musical service with Michael Harlow and Rabbi Dr. Joseph Skloot. On Saturday evening, guests enjoyed a festive gala outdoors on the temple grounds with dinner and magical entertainment. The weekend concluded on Sunday with a family celebration including a time capsule presentation, Israeli dancing, and lunch.

The gala committee — Elizabeth Bieber, Pam and Howard Heller, Mindy and Richard Strauss, and Renee and Jon Wolfe — also spearheaded the production of a journal commemorating the weekend, including messages from about 125 member families. For more information, go to templesinainj.org.
