The only solution
I disagree with Michael Goldstein, who said in an anti-Obama video that though he was an Obama supporter in 2008 he plans to vote for a Republican for president this year.
What changed his mind was Mr. Obama’s support for a two-state solution based on the pre-1967 Israeli borders. What he doesn’t mention is Mitt Romney’s position on the issue, which is nearly the same as the president’s! In fact, the two-state solution has long been supported by American Jews and American and Israeli politicians, including Defense Minister Ehud Barak, former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, and former Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni. If the West Bank and Gaza are annexed, the Arab citizens will outnumber the Jewish citizens, at which point Israel can be a single Jewish state that is not a democracy, or it can be a democracy that is not a Jewish state. It cannot be both. I believe that most Jewish Americans, and probably most Israelis, favor the twostate solution as the only solution that supports Israel’s security and our Jewish values, peace, and justice.
