It was a question that had to be asked.
Teaneck-born Princeton Jewish studies doctoral student Yitz Landes recently updated Twitter on how Jewish early childhood education was going in his household:
“Talking with the almost 4 year old about Shavuot,” he wrote, “and they asked me: ‘Who’s the bad guy on Shavuot?”
Good question indeed!
The most popular response offered on the social media platform was, of course, “lactose intolerance.”
Later, Mr. Landes offered an update:
“There are some great answers here in the replies but alas I tried explaining that the ‘bad guy’ on Shavuot is our own personal fear of encountering the divine directly without intermediaries or even worse, idols, and he said that was ‘boring’ and asked that I retell the Passover story.”
It seems that some holidays just can’t get no respect from kids these days.
