Tikva supporters honored

Tikva Children's Home, a partner agency of Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ, will present its 2013 Leadership Awards to attorney Andrew Stamelman of Randolph and Elliot Schnier of Florida at Light Up the Night With Hope, a fund-raising dinner, on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 6 p.m. at Espace in Manhattan. Israeli superstar David Broza will be the musical guest.

Both honorees have served as longtime trustees and donors of the facility in Odessa, Ukraine, which offers homeless, abused, and neglected Jewish children shelter and a nurturing environment. Tikva also provides multigenerational education, social services, vocational training, nutritious meals, and medical care to those in need.

Stamelman, a Tikva founding officer, is also active in many other organizations, and recently served as president of the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater MetroWest NJ. Speaking of his involvement in Tikva, Stamelman, who leads Riker Danzig’s tax and corporate practice groups in Morristown, said, “I’m proud to be part of an incredible group that cares so much about these children in need on the other side of the world.”

Schnier, co-CEO of Porky Products in Carteret, though now a resident of Florida, remains firmly connected to New Jersey. “Since my first visit to Tikva in 2004, when I saw the heartbreaking condition of so many children and families,” he said, “I resolved to do whatever I could to aid the rebirth of Odessa’s Jewish community.”

Max Kleinman, CEO of the Greater MetroWest federation, visited Tikva with Stamelman and Schnier and lauded their commitment to the facility, “which literally saves many lives that would otherwise be lost to the Jewish people.”
