Wallace Weiniger

Wallace Weiniger, 89, of Sarasota, Fla., died July 23, 2013. He was born in Newark and grew up in Irvington.

Mr. Weiniger worked for Weiniger and Schleifer Life and Casualty, then for Intercontinental Life Insurance. He was also a member of the CBOE and the American Stock Exchange, where he was a derivatives trader for 25 years.

He graduated from Irvington High School in 1941. He attended New York University.

He served in the U.S. Air Force and had achieved the rank of captain. He entered active service in January 1944, was deployed overseas from May until December that year, and ended his active duty in October 1945. During his deployment he was a B-17 Pilot for 50 missions, the last 10 of which he was a squadron leader. He received the Air Medal, 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

He was a bridge Life Master and taught bridge online to students across the globe. He was a Master at Triluminar Masonic Lodge #112.

Predeceased by his daughter, Cathy, he is survived by his wife, Arlene; his son, David (Judith) of Warren; his stepdaughter, Susan (Steven) Bond; two stepsons, Paul (Amy) and Thomas Schottland; and three grandchildren.

Private services were held in Sarasota. Memorial contributions may be made to Tidewell Hospice, Sarasota.
