Walter Flax
Walter Marshall Flax, 88, of West Palm Beach, Fla., died Jan. 14, 2017. He was born in Newark and also had lived in New York and Switzerland.
Dr. Flax had a private practice in Newark and then in West Orange until he retired at age 80.
After graduating from Columbia High School in Maplewood, he enlisted in the Army. He then attended Syracuse University, graduating pre-med. He attended University of Fribourg and The University of Geneva Medical Schools before completing his residency in surgery at Coney Island Hospital in Brooklyn.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Googie; his daughter, Melissa Flax; his son, Jonathan (Debra) Flax; and three grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 16 with arrangements by Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, Boynton Beach, Fla. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or any children’s foundation.
