Warm comfort
The JCC in West Orange is a part of the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ and was a haven for our community hardhit by Sandy. The JCC opened its doors Thursday, Nov. 1, and stayed open all day for several days, offering warm surroundings, coffee and tea, dozens of electrical charging outlets and WiFi access, all free, and all available to everyone who walked through the door.
For those of us without power and nowhere to go, it was a warm and welcoming shelter that helped us to get through the cold and inconveniences of a “powerless” home. The friendly staff was constantly in attendance, making sure that everyone had what they needed. I am so grateful to JCC’s executive director, Alan Feldman, for making this happen. This community would have been a much colder place if not for the JCC.
Thanks to Alan and everyone who worked so hard to give us a warm home at a very cold time.
