Wendy Merkin Piller, 68, of Warren died Dec. 21, 2019. Born and raised in Newark, she resided in Springfield before moving to Warren 33 years ago.
Mrs. Piller worked as a teacher in the Warren public schools for many years. She began her career as an elementary school teacher there and later helped develop the gifted and talented program, where she taught for the past several years. She was a recipient of the Governor’s Award in Education.
She received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Kean University and earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from Rider University.
She was a founding member and current president of the Chai Center for Jewish Life in Watchung. She was also on the boards of the B’nai B’rith Food Industry Lodge Foundation and the Autism Think Tank. A food and wine enthusiast, she was an officer of the Upper Saddle River chapter of the Chaine des Rotisseurs.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Steven; her daughter, Amanda; and twin grandchildren.
Services were held Dec. 27 with arrangements by Higgins Home for Funerals, Watchung. Memorial contributions may be made to Chai Center for Jewish Life.
