Wolfgang Merel
Wolfgang Merel, 80, of South Orange died Sept. 14, 2010. Born in Berlin, he also had lived in Newark and Cedar Grove.
Mr. Merel was the owner/operator of the engineering firm, Applied Controls in Fairfield, for 40 years before his retirement in 2000.
He earned a master’s degree in electrical engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology.
An avid sailor, he was the commodore for the Power Squadron of Northern New Jersey.
Predeceased by his wives, Susan (Gitlin) and Sandy (Richer), he is survived by three daughters, Monica and Shari Merel, both of Maplewood, and Alison Pechenick of Vermont; a sister, Sybil Gordon of Israel; and six grandchildren.
Services were held Sept. 16 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
