Writer to speak in Livingston about Jewish organized crime
Award-winning author and journalist Margalit Fox will discuss her latest book “The Talented Mrs. Mandelbaum: The Rise and Fall of an American Organized-Crime Boss,” at Temple Beth Shalom in Livingston. The program is on December 4, at 7:30 p.m.
Ms. Fox’s book tells the story of Fredericka Mandelbaum, who crossed the ocean in steerage, landed in New York in 1850, and worked as a peddler on the streets of lower Manhattan. By the 1870s she was the widowed mother of four, a society hostess, and an admired philanthropist. “Marm” Mandelbaum also became the country’s most notorious fence and a successful criminal mastermind.
The program is free and open to the community. Books will be available for purchase and signing. To RSVP, go to tbsnj.org
