Alan Krebs

Alan J. Krebs, 77, of Rahway died April 21, 2014. Born in Yonkers, NY, he grew up in Staten Island and moved to Rahway in 1963. 

Mr. Krebs worked for ABC Sports on its production staff for several years. He was an entrepreneur who opened several businesses, including the Bagel Chateau in Edison where he worked with his wife, Fran, for many years. Later in life he became a realtor working for ERA Realty in Clark. He retired five years ago. 

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University, New York City. 

He served as a U.S. Navy Reserve Medical Corpsman. 

He was the past president of B’nai B’rith in Clark. He and his wife created, produced, and directed the Yom Hashoa programs at several synagogues throughout the greater Union County area. The program was then adopted and expanded by Kean University, Union, where it has been in use for many years. They also created and produced the Yom Hashoa program for the City of Linden. 

Predeceased by his daughter, Pam, he is survived by his wife, Fran (Kupperberg); two sons, Howard and Michael (Camille); and three grandchildren. 

Services were held April 23 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Springfield. Memorial contributions may be made to Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
