Alan Rubin
Alan L. Rubin, 93, of Rahway died Sept. 20, 2019. He was born in Jersey City and grew up in Free Acres (on the border of Berkeley Heights).
Mr. Rubin worked for over 40 years at Electricon, Inc., in Teaneck, as vice president. Up until a few weeks ago he was still working as a professional engineer designing lighting for businesses such as Lidl Supermarkets and Walmart.
He received his undergraduate and master’s degrees from New Jersey Institute of Technology (formerly Newark College of Engineering) in electrical engineering.
He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran who served as an electronic technician.
He was the past president and past financial secretary at Temple Beth Torah in Rahway and a recipient of the Sam Robinson Man of the Year Award. He was a member of the Jewish Federation of Central NJ and served as a campaign chair, past president of the Jewish Horizon newspaper, and board member for over 25 years. He was a board member of Temple Beth O’r/Beth Torah, Clark, and a recipient of the man of the year award. He recently was a volunteer for Jewish Family Service of Central NJ in Elizabeth. For over 20 years, he read once a week to a kindergarten class in Roselle.
Predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Judy (Appel), he is survived by two daughters, Laurie Rubin and Mindy (Ed) Leibowitz; two grandsons; and two great-grandsons.
Services were held Sept. 22 at Temple Beth O’r/Beth Torah, to which memorial contributions may be made.
