Allan J. Hoffman
Allan J. Hoffman, 86, of Highland Park died Oct. 12, 2011. He was a native of Hicksville, Long Island.
Mr. Hoffman worked as a research chemist and supervisor of research for the Schering Corporation, American Cyanamid, and Hoechst-Roussell pharmaceutical divisions in Central Jersey. Later he was employed by the State of New Jersey’s Department of Environmental Protection to develop improved ways of monitoring water quality.
He was a graduate of Columbia University School of Pharmacy and received his PhD from Rutgers University.
Recently honored as a member of the American Chemical Society for more than 50 years, he was also elected to Sigma Xi, an honorary scientific society, and listed in the American Men of Science.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rosalyn (Weitman); two sons, Daniel of Philadelphia and Robert of Cherry Hill; two granddaughters, and two stepgranddaughters.
Services were held Oct. 14 with arrangements by Goldstein Funeral Chapel, Inc., Edison. Memorial contributions may be made to Union of Concerned Scientists, Cambridge, Mass; or Community Food Bank of New Jersey, Hillside.
