Allyn Cooper
Allyn Cooper (Deutel), 77, of Livingston died Oct. 8, 2019. She spent her childhood in East Orange and later Maplewood before moving to Livingston in 1968.
Mrs. Cooper worked in the Livingston public schools for 32 years, helping children with speech-language challenges.
She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and received her master’s degree in speech and language pathology.
She was a longtime member of Temple B’nai Abraham in Livingston. She was also committed to social justice issues that included reproductive freedom, LGBTQ equality, and teenage dating abuse.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lawrence; two daughters, Bari Cooper (Marshall) Sherman of Los Angeles and Leslie Cooper (Sarah Zercher) of Jersey City; a brother, Robert Deutel of South Orange; and four grandchildren.
Services were held Oct. 11 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to Foundation for Diabetes Research.
