Barbara Densen
Barbara Y. Densen (Yost), 59, of Summit died July 17, 2013.
Mrs. Densen taught history at the Sanford School in Hockessin, Del., after graduating from college. Before starting her family, she worked as an investigator in Harrisburg, Pa., for the Wage and Hour division of the U.S. Department of Labor, and in information management for the Great Oak Insurance Company in Springfield, Mass., and for Swiss Bank Corporation in New York. Later, she worked for eight years as an assistant librarian at the Franklin School in Summit.
A lifelong advocate for quality public schools, she was a founding member of Speak Up, Summit, an education advocacy group, and past president of the Franklin School PTA. She was also one of the founders of the Summit Area Baby Center, which provides basic infant care necessities for area disadvantaged families, and a principal supporter of Leaders of the Lung Cancer Free World, a lung cancer awareness and advocacy campaign.
Predeceased by her mother, Dorothy Braker Yost, she is survived by her husband, Rob; her daughter, Arielle (Brian) Landau of New York City; two sons, Sam of Summit and Dan of New York City; her father, Walter Yost of Allentown, Pa.; a sister, Susan Case of Fogelsville, Pa.; and a brother, Douglas Yost of Tafton, Pa.
Services were held July 22 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to Targeting a Cure for Lung Cancer and sent to Massachusetts General Hospital Development Office, Attn: Sarah Christensen, 165 Cambridge Street, Suite 600, Boston, MA 02114.
