Benjamin H. Katz
Benjamin H. Katz, 71, of Boca Raton, Fla., died Jan. 5, 2011. He was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Queens.
Mr. Katz was a longtime and successful commercial real estate broker known throughout New Jersey and New York for his knowledge and expertise. He began his career in Long Island City, Queens, in the early 1960s, and went on to represent companies such as Nabisco, JC Penney, ADP, Tiffany and Co., and Calvin Klein Cosmetics.
He graduated from Forest Hills High School in 1957, having been a standout athlete in basketball and baseball. He wore Bill Dickey’s Yankees uniform while leading his baseball team to the city championships at Yankee Stadium; he also played basketball at Madison Square Garden during a city championship game.
He is survived by his wife, Merle; two sons, Mitchell of Livingston and Barry of Hollywood, Fla.; his daughter, Jill Pecore of Wyckoff; two stepdaughters, Stacy Surgent and Robyn McDonough; a brother, Jack of San Juan, Puerto Rico; a sister, Nikki Katz of Huntington, NY; seven grandchildren; and a stepgrandson.
Services were held Jan. 7 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston.
