Bernice Rotberg
Bernice Alice Spielvogel Rotberg, 88, of Maplewood died March 7, 2015. She was born in Newark and moved to West Orange after her marriage in 1952.
Mrs. Rotberg worked at the Institute for International Education in New York and later became an elementary school teacher at Redwood School in West Orange.
She graduated from Weequahic High School in Newark and Penn State University, where she majored in Spanish. She earned her master’s degree in education from Kean College.
She was active in American Association of University Women and was a volunteer at the International Arrivals information desk at Newark Airport and at New Jersey Performing Arts Center.
Predeceased by her husband, Alvin, and a daughter, Amy, she is survived by her son, Michael (Heidi); a daughter, Jane (Robert) Simon, son-in-law Marshall (Betsy); seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held March 8 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to WNYC or AAUW.
