Care and support in the comfort of own home
November is National Homecare and Hospice Month, a time to celebrate home-care and hospice professionals who make a difference in the lives of patients and their families. It is also an opportunity to increase public awareness about the valuable home-care and hospice choices available in the community. More than 12 million people rely on home care each year, and in 2009 an estimated 1.56 million patients received hospice services.
Most people want to stay in their own home as long as possible, but as people age or experience an illness, they may need help to remain there. Greenwood House Homemaker and Hospice Services can provide the care and support you or your loved one need — in the comfort of your or their own home.
Greenwood House Homemaker Services offer support and practical help for people of any age who need assistance with day-to-day activities. Starting with an assessment and care plan by a registered nurse, these supervised services offer individualized care tailored to the needs of the client and their family members.
Certified home health aides can assist with a variety of activities, including simple companionship, bathing assistance, meal preparation and clean up, light housekeeping, medication reminders, laundry and linen changing, and errands and transportation. Individuals receive a helping hand while maintaining their dignity and independence, and services can be provided for short- or long-term periods. While services provide help to the client, they also offer support to caregivers and provide a break from care-giving responsibilities.
Homemaker Services can help you or your loved one stay safe and as independent as possible — at home.
Peaceful and painless
The Renee Denmark Punia Community Hospice of Greenwood House can help people meet the challenges of end-of-life issues by providing individualized services designed to give physical comfort and emotional and spiritual support to patients and their loved ones.
Hospice care is available when a life-limiting illness no longer responds to cure-oriented treatments.
With hospice, the emphasis isn’t on cure; it’s on care. Focusing on personalized and coordinated care, hospice services can help ensure that a person’s remaining days are as peaceful and painless as possible.
Care is managed by the patient’s personal physician, along with additional team members providing support. Nurses are available to monitor pain, manage symptoms, and guide caregivers in providing care. Social workers help the patient and family cope with the stresses of a terminal illness and connect them with available community resources. Trained volunteers assist with patient and family support activities and can provide a rest for caregivers when needed. Spiritual care coordinators are available to provide emotional support and counseling when requested, and home health aides provide personal patient care.
Hospice services support patients and their loved ones so they can concentrate on time spent together; services can be provided wherever a patient calls home. The hospice team remains committed to family members and friends with support for one year after the death of a loved one, including individual and family counseling, grief education, and support groups.
If you are a patient, caregiver, family member, or friend in need of help, you are not alone. Greenwood House Homemaker and Hospice Services can provide the care, comfort, and support individuals and families need.
