Chanukah at the GWB
For the 12th consecutive year, Bris Avrohom placed five menorahs at the George Washington Bridge, the busiest crossing in the United States. Before the lighting, Rabbi Mordechai Kanelsky talked about the menorah-lighting ceremony, the meaning of Chanukah, and the miracles that it celebrates.
Rabbi Kanelsky presented a menorah to Luis Franco, the GWB’s general manager. Vlad and Tatyana German sponsored the largest of the five menorahs, which stood on the upper level. The Germans invited their friends to join in the ceremony; many of them put on tefillin. They also were given a menorah.
The menorah on the lower level was sponsored by Elisa and Alan Pines, who were accompanied by their son, Rabbi Jason Pines. Another menorah was placed at the Palisades entrance, sponsored by the Kahane and Pomerantz families. Jason Kahane and his son lit that menorah.
