Rabbi Mendy Kasowitz of Chabad of West Orange led community menorah lightings in Roseland and West Orange. There was also a festive family party at Chabad, complete with an olive press workshop, games, crafts, treats, and prizes.

Mayor Susan McCartney, local dignitaries, Hatzalah members, members of the West Orange police and fire departments, and the community members joined to light a menorah at West Orange’s town hall.

At the lightings, Rabbi Kasowitz talked about his friend Rabbi Eli Schlanger, the Chabad rabbi in Sydney, Australia, who was murdered by Islamist terrorists on the first night of Chanukah. “Rabbi Eli would want us to celebrate more,” Rabbi Kasowitz said. “He would want us to bring more light, do more good deeds, and bring more unity to the world.”
