Dorothy Blackstone

Dorothy (“Dottie”) Theresa Blackstone of Maplewood died Aug. 28, 2014. She grew up in Newark and also had lived in West Orange and Short Hills.

Mrs. Blackstone graduated from Weequahic High School’s class of 1944 in Newark with high honors. 

After the death of her son Bruce in 1958, she became a fund raiser for the National Kidney Disease Foundation, and eventually became president of the New Jersey chapter, for which she served until 1961.

An avid bridge and tennis player, she played tennis into her early 80s and bridge until the last months of her life. 

In addition to her son Bruce, she was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Milton, in 1995, and her son Glenn in 1998. She is survived by her son, Bob (Pam) of Bernardsville; her daughter-in-law, Melissa Blackstone of Warren; and six grandchildren.

Services were held Aug. 31 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
