Dorothy Kleinert

Dorothy Rhoda Kleinert, 89, of West Orange died Jan. 6, 2017. Born and raised in Newark, she had resided in Irvington, Springfield, Roseland, Lakewood, and Toms River before moving to West Orange in 2013. 

Mrs. Kleinert managed Siegel’s on Chancellor Avenue, and later with her husband, co-owned and operated the Dress Stop, a women’s clothing store, and the Personal Place, a lingerie shop, in New Providence. 

She was active in many social causes, including serving as a founding board member of the Child Guidance Center and as a member of the Board of Education in Irvington. 

She was an involved member of Temple B’nai Abraham, Livingston, for over five decades, serving on the sisterhood and board of trustees. 

Predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Milton, and her son, Howard, she is survived by her daughter, Honi (Bennett) Wasserman; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. 

Services were held Jan. 8 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to Community FoodBank of New Jersey.
