Dr. Sanford Reiss
Dr. Sanford Reiss, 84, of Westfield died Nov. 13, 2010. Born in New York City, he moved to Westfield in 1956.
As a physician in private practice, Dr. Reiss’ specializations were in the fields of internal medicine and gastroenterology. He also served as president of the medical staff at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
He earned his BS and MD degrees from Cornell University, New York, and was a member of the alumni associations of Cornell and its School of Medicine as well as a member of the Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was an active member of Temple Emanu-El and its men’s club in Westfield, and served on the temple’s board of trustees for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice (Strauss); three daughters, Monica Gail Reiss of Fanwood and Franci Reiss-Sagar and Ruth Amy Reiss, both of New York City; his son, David of Hoboken; a brother, Robert Leonard Reiss of Miami; and three grandchildren.
Services were held Nov. 15 at Temple Emanu-El with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
