Edward Kurtzer
Edward Kurtzer, 93, of Springfield died Oct. 13, 2018. Born in Elizabeth, he lived in Newark before moving to Springfield in 1958.
A business owner, Mr. Kurtzer worked in the optical and dental delivery business for 41 years, retiring in 1989.
He graduated from the Merchant Marines Officer Training School.
He was a founding member of both Temple Beth Ahm Yisrael (TBAY) and Congregation Israel, both in Springfield. He was an active member of Springfield Lodge of B’nai B’rith, Union County Wheelers, B’nai B’rith Bowlers, Goldwing Road Riders of America, and TBAY’s men’s club and choir. He was also involved with the NJ-NY Detectives Crime Clinic.
Predeceased by his wife, Bernice, he is survived by three sons, Stuart (Donna) of Livingston, Robert (Marie) of Sunny Isles Beach, Fla., and Mitchell (Maggie) of New York; his daughter, Lisa of Springfield; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held Oct. 16 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Springfield.
