Edward R. Gurvitz

Edward R. Gurvitz, 98, of Reseda, Calif., died Nov. 23, 2011. Born in Newark, he lived in East Orange, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Asbury Park, Hillside, Union, and for 31 years, Newbury Park, Calif., before moving to Reseda two years ago.

Mr. Gurvitz was a postal supervisor in Newark for 37 years.

He was a graduate of Asbury Park High School and attended Newark College of Engineering and Rutgers University.

He was an Army-Air Corps veteran of World War II, having served from July 1941 to October 1945. He served in the United States before being sent overseas to serve in India.

He was also an officer in the former Shalom Seniors, a Mason, and a member of R.S.V.P., the Conservative Temple Senior Group, and the Jewish War Veterans.

He was honored by the Goeble Senior Center and the Los Robles Regional Medical Center, both in Thousand Oaks, Calif., for being a 25- and 26-year volunteer, respectively.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Miriam (Sklar); his son, Alan of Manahawkin; his daughter, Marsha Weiss of Simi, Calif.; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were held Nov. 27 with arrangements by Conejo Mountain Memorial Home, Camarillo, Calif. Memorial contributions may be made to the Los Angeles Home for the Aging.
