Elaine Coben
Elaine R. Coben (Gershen), 94, of Somerset died April 2, 2020. She grew up in Elizabeth and lived in Livingston for 23 years and in Long Branch for 10 years.
Mrs. Coben trained and worked as a hospital nurse in Monmouth County during World War II. After attending night school to become a medical assistant, she worked for several doctors and eventually held the role of office manager for a neurological practice in Elizabeth for 12 years.
She also did volunteer work at the Jewish Home for the Aged in Somerset.
Predeceased by her husband of 73 years, Melvin, in 2018, and a son, Larry, she is survived by a son, Daniel (Vicki); her daughter, Debra (Glenn) Knobelman; a daughter-in-law, Marcy; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Private services were held with arrangements by Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick.
