Erica Fried
Erica O. Fried (Feder), 71, of Westfield died May 31, 2014. Born in Budapest, she first settled in Brooklyn after immigrating to the United States. Later she moved to Manhattan and then to Brooklyn before settling in Westfield over 30 years ago.
Dr. Fried maintained a private medical practice and was also on staff as a radiologist at Rahway Hospital for many years, retiring in the late 1990s. After retirement she returned to school, obtained an MBA, and started a free women’s financial advisory service in Union County.
She received a BS from Brooklyn College and an MD from New York University, completing her residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City.
She initiated a Patient Advocacy program for the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders. At the time of her death, she served as Deputy Commissioner of the Fair Harber Beach Erosion Control District on Fire Island in Fair Harbor, NY, where she had also founded High Holy Day services. She was for a number of years treasurer of the Garden Club of New Jersey and a member of the Rake and Hoe Garden Club of Westfield.
She is survived by her husband, Jerome; her daughter, Samantha Feder (Douglas Kaiden); her son, Jeffrey (Esther); and five grandchildren.
Services were held June 1 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Springfield.
