This year’s Friends of the IDF’s Legacy Summer Camp program was significantly larger than ever before. There were 340 participants in six delegations; all of them had fathers or siblings who were among the 674 Israel Defense Forces soldiers killed on October 7 or since during the ongoing war.

The Legacy July 24 to August 1: Road Trip East Coast group, which is sponsored by FIDF’s New Jersey chapter, made many stops in the state, including the American Dream in Secaucus, the Mills at Jersey Gardens Mall in Elizabeth, and a barbecue party for about 50 kids and 15 counselors in Teaneck, hosted by Sharona and Jacob Schulder.

“We felt honored when FIDF asked us to host a barbecue for teens that have lost family members in the war,” the Schulders said. “Seeing the strength these teens have is truly amazing and the feeling was contagious. It was a privilege for our family to bond with these 60 Israeli young adults and hear their stories. FIDF planned an amazing week of excitement where the teens were able to connect with peers also experiencing similar loss while having fun and building memories. The whole night was filled with ruach, laughter, and some tears. We don’t know who enjoyed the evening more, us or them!” For information, go to  www.fidf.org.
