Freda Mayer

Freda “Fritzi” Mayer, 100, of West Orange died April 4, 2019.

In her early family life, Mrs. Mayer was a housewife and mother. While her sons were at school, she worked at the Children’s Institute for Autistic Children from 1971 to 1974. After her sons left for college, she enrolled at Kean College at the age of 60, graduating summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in English.

After graduating, she landed a position in Kean’s Office of the Registrar in 1982, and served for the next 29 years as an evaluator, reviewing applications for graduation. She retired in 2007.

Predeceased by her husband, Abraham, she is survived by two sons, Michael of California and Victor of West Orange; and a grandson.

Services were held April 7 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
