George Strauss
George Strauss, 96, of Somerset died July 10, 2018. Born in Vienna, Austria, he emigrated in 1939 to Australia before coming to the United States in 1952.
He was a professor of physical chemistry at Rutgers University.
Previously Mr. Strauss worked as a chemist. He graduated from Sydney Technical College with an external degree from the University of London. In 1952 he came to the U.S. for graduate studies in chemistry at Lehigh University and he became an American citizen.
He was a member of Friends of the Piscataway Library, the University Outing Club, Unitarian Society of New Brunswick, American Chemical Society, Sigma Xi, the Canal Walk Men’s Club, and nature conservation organizations.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marilyn (Jeffrey); his son, Paul (Rachel); his daughter, Barbara (Larry) Sanders; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Aug. 25 at 11 a.m. at The Unitarian Society in East Brunswick. Arrangements were by Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, New Brunswick.
