Gerald Schwartz
Gerald E. Schwartz, 85, of West Orange died March 22, 2012. He grew up in Newark, and later lived in Hillside and Union. After his retirement, he moved to Boynton Beach, Fla., before moving to Whippany and later West Orange.
Mr. Schwartz was self-employed in the window display business.
He served in the Navy during World War II and was an active member of Jewish War Veterans Post 34, reaching the post of New Jersey State Commander. He was also active in the Knights of Pythias.
He was president for eight consecutive years of Congregation B’nai Ahavath Shalom of Irvington and Union.
Predeceased by his wife, Elaine, in 2008, he is survived by his daughter, Amy Lipper of Jacksonville, Fla.; his son, Barry of West Orange; and three grandchildren.
Services were held March 23 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston.
