Harry Berger

Harry W. Berger, 91, of Tinton Falls died Feb. 1, 2014. He was born in New York City and raised his family in Ocean Township.

Mr. Berger became an agent, and later a general agent, for the New England Life Insurance Company in Asbury Park, where he was employed until his retirement in 1986.

After graduating from Asbury Park High School in 1940, he attended Temple University, leaving to enlist in the armed services during World War II.

An active community member, he served as president of the Joseph Finkel Lodge of B’nai B’rith and Temple Beth Miriam in Elberon. He also served on the board of directors of Hollywood Golf Club, where he was a member for over 35 years.

Predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Evelyn “Evy” Ledwitz Berger, in 2009, he is survived by his daughter, Robin Berger of Gloucester, Mass.; two sons, Richard (Cynthia) and Alan (Karen); a sister, Maida Carson; and three grandchildren.

Services were held Feb. 3 with arrangement by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean.
