Herbert Goldstein
Herbert H. Goldstein, 95, of Piscataway died Sept. 16, 2013. He was born in New York City and had resided in Highland Park for over 50 years.
Mr. Goldstein was a co-owner of Rosenthal Lumber Co., based in New Brunswick, until his early retirement in 1975.
He graduated from St. John’s University in 1939.
He served as past chancellor of the Knights of Pythias and was a life member of the Masonic Order, Shriner’s, and the Elks. He was also president of the Exchange Club in Highland Park, and served as president of the Jewish Federation of Raritan Valley. He was one of the founders and a past president of the board of the Central New Jersey Jewish Home for the Aged and president of the Wilentz Senior Residence for 30 years. He was also a member of the board of directors of the YM-YWHA of Raritan Valley.
He received many awards in his lifetime, including the David Ben-Gurion Award for his service to Israel and his leadership in the Jewish community. He also was past president and director of the Middlesex Rehabilitation Hospital, past general chairman of the United Fund of New Brunswick, and director for over 25 years of First Savings and Loan Association of Middlesex County.
Predeceased by his wife, Bert (Shipon), in 2006, he is survived by two daughters, Roslyn Rolan of Fort Lee and Eileen (Averell) Eisner of Harvey Cedars; his son, Irwin Martin (Fran) of Ann Arbor, Mich.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were held Sept. 18 with arrangements by Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, New Brunswick.
