Herbert Parker
Dr. Herbert “Herb” Spencer Parker, 87, of Laguna Woods, Calif., died Nov. 18, 2013. He had been a resident of Laguna Woods since the mid-1970s.
Dr. Parker enjoyed a 20-plus year career as a professor of education and management science at Kean College of New Jersey (now Kean University). Prior to his move into higher education, he held positions as a senior program analyst with the U.S. Office of Economic Activity’s Community Action Programs in Washington, DC, and as a self-employed management consultant; held sales positions with Science Research Associates (then a subsidiary of IBM) in Chicago and with U.S. Industries’ Education Science and Automation Divisions in Silver Spring, Md.; and progressed through an early career as a teacher, counselor, coach, and director of student personnel services in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and New York.
He received a bachelor’s degree from University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, a doctorate in education from Columbia University Teacher’s College, and an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Predeceased by his wives Edith Rose Parker Kusner and Arlene Morris Wiener Parker, he is survived by his former wife, Muriel Cohen of Laguna Woods; his son, Randall H. (Diane) of Long Branch; his daughter, Roxanne “Sandy” Parker (Elliot Feinberg) of Naples, Fla.; and two grandchildren Randall H. Parker Jr. and Amanda R. Parker Strapp.
Services were held Nov. 21 with arrangements by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Funeral Chapels, Ocean.
