Herman Komar
Herman Komar, 99, of Shrewsbury died Nov. 26, 2010.
Mr. Komar worked for his entire career at Charles Komar and Sons, an apparel business founded in 1908 by his father. He ran the company as president from 1952 to 1985 and subsequently served as cochairman of the board until his death. He enjoyed attending the business’ 100th anniversary party at the New York Public Library in 2008.
As an athlete, he was an all scholastic lacrosse and football player; he played professional football for the Perth Amboy team in the early 1920s and later was a nationally ranked handball player.
He was a member of Congregation B’nai Israel in Rumson.
Predeceased by his first wife, Margaret, in 1952 and his second wife, Hermie, in 1998, he is survived by his son, Charles of Rumson; two daughters, Leah Komar Harris of Breckenridge, Colo., and Donna Laurie of Princeton; a brother, Harold of Little Silver; a sister, Madeline Levin of Palm Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held Nov. 29 with arrangements by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean. Memorial contributions may be made to Lunch Break, Red Bank.
