HIAS aided family

When I first heard about the Pittsburgh massacre I was totally distraught, my feelings quickly turned to sheer anger as to why 11 innocent, mostly older people were assassinated by a white supremacist. I was especially disturbed about the gunman blaming HIAS for his actions.

For more than 100 years HIAS has aided immigrants and refugees, such as myself. It was HIAS that brought me and my family to this country from Beirut, Lebanon, where I was born. The organization fulfilled my father’s dream of living in the U.S. The HIAS organization worked feverishly for four years not only to sponsor us to obtain the proper visa, but subsidizing us financially throughout the relocation process. My father, who passed away in 1982, can truly rest in peace; he never forgot what the HIAS organization did for him and his family.
