Hilde Spain (Mintz) of Parsippany died Feb. 11, 2020. She was born in Brooklyn in 1932 and relocated to New Jersey in 1972.
Mrs. Spain taught English and history in Brooklyn. She also taught Hebrew and religious school at Midway Jewish Center in Syosset and Temple Emanuel of East Meadow, N.Y. She educated fourth graders at Temple B’nai Or, Morristown, for over 45 years.
She graduated from Hunter College in New York City in 1954 with a B.A. in education. She continued her education, pursuing a master’s degree at Hunter College.
A longtime member of Morristown Jewish Center, she was co-president of Sisterhood for several years, sat on the synagogue board, and was head chair of the ritual committee. She served as president of the National Women’s Committee of Brandeis University.
Predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Arnold, in 2009, she is survived by two sons, Steven of Parsippany and Michael (Pamela) of Lansdale, Pa.; her daughter, Hilary (Scott) Reilly of Denville; and four grandchildren.
Services were held Feb. 13 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
