Irene Dworeck

Irene “Rene” Dworeck, 93, of Highland Park died Jan. 8, 2013. Born in Reading, England, she came to the United States after her marriage in 1945, living in New York City before moving to Highland Park over 60 years ago.

Mrs. Dworeck worked as a legislative aide to Assembly members David Schwartz and Jerry Green, where she dealt with constituent concerns.

She was a long-term civic activist, serving Highland Park as a member and past president of the Borough Council, member of the Commission on the Handicapped, and chairperson of the Commission on Aging, Community Development Block Grant committee, and the Highland Park Housing Authority. She also served for three decades as a member of the board of directors of the NJ Institute for Disabilities (formerly the Cerebral Palsy Association of Middlesex County). She was honored by the association with a “Life Membership” in recognition of her outstanding service. She also served as New Brunswick chapter president of Deborah Hospital and had been president of the Highland Park Lions Club Auxiliary.

Predeceased by her husband, Louis, in 1989, she is survived by her daughter, Bonnie (Stewart) Krentzman of River Vale; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Services were held Jan. 11 at Highland Park Conservative Temple-Congregation Anshe Emeth, with arrangements by Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, New Brunswick.
