Irwin Gerechoff
Irwin David Gerechoff, 88, of Deal died March 21, 2020. He was born in Asbury Park.
Mr. Gerechoff worked in his father’s business, Gerechoff Butter & Eggs, with his siblings. He established the Oakhurst-based G & G Realtors 53 years ago with his wife Nancy.
He was a graduate of Asbury Park High School and Rider College.
He was a combat medic during the Korean War in the United States Army Seventh Division. He received the Korean Service Medal, earning two Bronze stars and the United Nations Defense Service Medal.
He served on many boards and committees, including as past president of Congregation Sons of Israel, commander of Jewish War Veterans Post 165 and NJ State Jewish War Veterans, and on the board of trustees at Temple Beth Torah. He was also a member of Congregation Torat El and the NJ Commission on Holocaust Education (appointed by Gov. Chris Christie) and many committees on the Monmouth County Board of Realtors. He was also one of the founders, with his wife, of two Hebrew day schools in Albany and Binghamton, N.Y.
Predeceased by his sons, Thomas Hudson and Russell Gerechoff, and his son-in-law, Steven Scheer, he is survived by his wife of 67 years, Nancy; his daughter, Abby Scheer; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held March 22 with arrangements by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean.
