James Rubenstein

James Bret Rubenstein, M.D., 64, of New York City died April 13, 2017. Born in Fort Monmouth, he grew up in Fair Lawn and lived in Morris Township for over 30 years before moving to New York City three years ago.

Dr. Rubenstein was board certified by the American Board of Radiology and practiced for 34 years as a partner and the section chief of ultrasound at Morris Imaging Associates in Morristown. He was also a certified mohel, under the auspices of the Berit Mila Board of Reform Judaism.

He attended Cornell University and New York Medical College as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society, and completed his internship in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital and his radiology residency at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, both in New York City. He then obtained his fellowship training in Ultrasound and Computerized Tomography at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. 

He was an active member and Chavurah group participant at Temple B’nai Or, Morristown, for many years, and most recently active at Temple Emanu-El, New York City. 

He is survived by his wife, Bess Goldenberg; two daughters, Jana Rubenstein of Encinitas, Calif., and Liza Rubenstein (fiancé Michael Haas) of Philadelphia; his father, Joseph Rubenstein of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a sister, Margo Rubenstein of Scottsdale; and a brother, Sidney Rubenstein of Lexington, Mass. 

Services were held April 16 with arrangements by Louis Suburban Chapel, Fair Lawn. Memorial contributions may be made to Chabad of SE Morris County, Madison; or Berit Mila Board of Reform Judaism, c/o HUC-JIR, 3077 University Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90007-3796.
