Jay Krafchick
Jay Arthur Krafchick, 80, a resident of Livingston since 1962, died Sept. 20, 2011. He was a native of Newark.
Mr. Krafchick was a well-known pianist who founded the Jay Arthur Band. He had worked alongside his father, Max, at Krafchick and Son Curtains and Linens in Newark until its closing in 1967. Afterward, he worked as a stockbroker until his retirement in 1998.
He graduated from Weequahic High School, Newark, and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Upon retirement, Jay accompanied the AARP Livingtones Chorus, and was a hike leader for the Union Hiking Club and the South Mountain Conservancy. He was a member of Temple Emanu-El of West Essex, Livingston, for over 45 years.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judy (Schindler); two daughters, Dana Krafchick of Littleton, Colo., and Shari Naidrich of Tenafly; and four grandchildren.
Services were held Sept. 22 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to the Livingston First Aid Squad or Temple Emanu-El.
