Jean Rubenstein
Jean Rosen Rubenstein (Kimel) of Highland Park and Boca Raton, Fla., died May 6, 2019. Born in the Bronx, she lived for most of her life in the Highland Park area while also spending time in Boca Raton.
Mrs. Rubenstein had a decades-long career as a fifth-grade teacher at Washington Elementary School in Edison. After retiring, she continued as a substitute teacher with the Edison School District for many years.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Michigan, where she was an active member of the Sigma Alpha Iota international music fraternity.
She was a member of National Education Association, New Jersey Education Association, Middlesex County Education Association, and the Edison Township Education Association. She also volunteered at several local hospitals.
She was a longtime member of Highland Park Conservative Temple-Congregation Anshe Emeth and its sisterhood.
Predeceased by her husbands, Harold Rosen and Robert Rubenstein, she is survived by two daughters, Paula Rosen Schiff (Bob Schiff) and Judy Rosen Kalan (Gary Kalan); her stepson, Elihu Rubenstein; and two grandchildren.
Services were held May 9 with arrangements by Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, New Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to American Macular Degeneration Foundation or the Lighthouse Guild.
